The ministry was started in May 1998, in Faggala church. In September of 1998, The Lutheran Hour Ministries office in Egypt was established. The office is located in a Fowler Orphanage building. It is one of six Evangelical orphanages in Egypt. Miss Merged and her husband, Mr. John Fowler, established the orphanage in 1915. In the beginning the orphanage was a house that provided living space for 6 orphan girls, today 40 girls call the orphanage home.
