LEAD ME TO CHIRST. . .EX-CONVIT REQUEST
It was a very sad moment yet a time of joy when a visitor to the office of the Ministry requested to be lead to Christ. When asked why such a request and where he was coming from, Isaac Owusu Bempah, an ex-convict said he had just been set free after completing a two year sentence at the Nsawam Prisons.
Narrating his story to the staff in tears, Isaac 22, said he hails from A ssin Fosu in the Central Region of Ghana and came to Accra in search of greener pastures after he dropped out of school for lack of financial support. It was during one of his normal daily duties of helping people with luggage that he had a confrontation with a friend during which he angrily used a dagger on his friend.
Subsequently he was arrested and arranged before court and sentenced to two years in prison. Isaac said none of his relatives was aware of his situation and thus had no one visiting him while in prison. When inquired how he got to know of the Ministry, he said during Christmas last year a feast was organized for inmates during which names of Outreach organizations were mentioned including Lutheran Media Ministry. He was able to memorize that of the Lutheran Media Ministry because of the things they do to help society and the location was something he could remember handy. He said he had learnt a lot from the prisons even though the conditions were terrible. He was grateful to God that he has been able to serve his sentence and directed to the Lutheran Media Ministry (LMM). He now wants to dedicate the rest of his life to the service of God.
His advice to the youth was that they study with LMM to k now more about the saving knowledge of Christ. Isaac said young people should not be taken away by the pleasures and excitement of this world. “For such worldly desires will lead to very disastrous conditions.” He further encouraged young people to make the word of God dwell in them, respect and heed to the advice of the elderly because it will help them to be successful in future. He believes good and exemplary lives are worthy of emulation.
A prayer was said for Isaac by Ministry’s Program Coordinator Isaac Adaam to thank God for taking him through his sentence successfully and to guide him as he is out of prison. He was then counselled and encouraged to depend on God in whatever endeavour he engages in. The Ministry supported him to establish contact with his family and told to call back to the Ministry when he needed any spiritual support.
