"Young People With Free Spirits"
PROJECT JOEL is an effort of the outreach centres of th e Interantional Lutheran Laymen's League to reach young people of our time with the clear message that, although there exists a problematic situation that marks our society, it does not have to continue. In these circumstances, young people are called to change and not to act as passive persons who receive and assimilate everything without question. Activities of the project shall include integral preventive and curative education (using interactive methods) on several social and spiritual issues.
The Need for "PROJECT JOEL"
Several communities today are made up of majority of young people most of which suffer various forms of societal forces and are indeed searching for answers to the challenges they face.
Examples of these societal forces occur due to:
- activities of some media houses bombarding young people with negative messages; Where television programs glorifying promiscurity and sexual infidelity, violent behaviour, alcohol and drug abuse, and anti-Christian values;
- lyrics of certain types of music focusing on these same anti-values;
- adverts which uses sex and rampant consumer mentality to influence young people and sell their products;
- the effects of broken families, absent parents, secularism and deteriorating value systems;
There is no doubt that all these will not provide a solid base for young people and thus put tremendous pressure onthem in directing their living patterns to "follow the crowd"
Core Values of PROJECT JOEL
- Each human being has infinite and eternal value as a child of God and should be treated with dignity and respect.
- Each human being has the right to express their faith and love of God on an environment that promotes happiness, solidarity and fellowship.
- All young people should be informed about integral prevention and acquire the commitment to share their knowledge with others.
- With proper information, guidance and support all young people can become productive members of society.
- All young people have a responsibility and commitment to be faithful witnesses to God through their lives and thus contribute to their country and society.
"Success of the Program can be measured in the smiles on the faces of young people who go through it"
